Brackendale Farmers Institute

Tell us about your business and why you should receive this award!

The Brackendale Fall Fair, hosted by the Brackendale Farmers Institute, had humble beginnings as the Squamish Farmers Institute in 1915. The first fall fair was held in 1921. Have you seen the old photos on the BFI website of Chief Khatsilano and Chief Jimmy Jimmy attending the 1921 fall fair?

Through many global events ie: WW1, WW2, Spanish Flu, Covid, the fall fair was held at different locations around town.

Currently, the fall fair is held annually at the BFI park at 41976 Government Road.

As a not for profit society, the energies and proceeds from the fall fair help BFI steward the park land, provide scholarships to local students going on to post secondary education, support small business entrepreneurs, inspire locals to grow, make and bake their best exhibit competition entries, enjoy performances by locals. and most importantly showcase local community organizations.

The fair happens because of volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to support your local community, build skills, and meet people. Whether you volunteer directly with the Brackendale Farmers Institute to host the fall fair, or one of the many other organizations showcasing their important contribution to community, you will be rewarded with new friends, experiences and knowledge. It only takes your time, but what it gives is immeasurable.

The Brackendale Fall Fair is the best event in town to bring people together to share their stories of summer, race a zucchini, and maybe spot a sasquatch. Who knows - you might even find a new passion.
