Murray Sovereign
Tell us about your business and why you should receive this award!
Murray has been a long time citizen and supporter of the Squamish Community. He owns Valhalla Pure Outfitters where he has been giving a percentage of his monthly profits to the Squamish Community Foundation since their initiation around 25 years ago. Murray is a hard worker and always looking to improve the local community without expectation of return (I am even writing this for him because he didn't want to promote himself). He is taking his first vacation this year in 5.5 years!
Murray has also financially supported Squamish SAR, Howe Sound Marine Trail, Climbers Access Society, the Squamish Paddling Club, and more with his business. He is highly regarded in the outdoor community for his single-handed development of the Echo Lake Trails that allow tourists and locals access to the beautiful falls and lake every year.
Murray is a strong supporter of local clubs and offers his space at Valhalla as a free venue with a large pull down screen and sound system so that all proceeds can go to the individuals or organization. He keeps his staff on hand after hours and takes on costs to offer his venue, whether to local clubs, organizations, or even independent film makers trying to make it.
Murray's roots in this town run deep, he was on the Tourism Squamish Board over 15 years ago when it was the Squamish Sustainability Corporation. He is well loved and appreciated and is strongly deserving of this award!
