Headquartered in Squamish (S?wx?wú7mesh), B.C., Carbon Engineering (CE) is focused on advancing technologies for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) – the primary greenhouse gas responsible for climate change - from the air around us.
Direct Air Capture (or DAC) is a technology that captures CO2 directly from the atmosphere with an engineered system. It does this by pulling in air, then through a series of chemical reactions, extracts the CO2 from it while returning the rest of the air to the environment. This is what plants and trees do every day as they photosynthesize, except DAC technology does it much faster and with a smaller land footprint.
As we celebrate 15 years, we continue to position research, technology development, and innovation at the heart of what we do. Our Innovation Centre, built in 2021 and located in the Oceanfront area, provides an optimal environment for scientists, engineers, and innovators to drive this critical climate technology forward. This dedicated DAC research and development platform is among the largest in the world, providing a fully integrated plant to test, analyze, and validate advancements and new pathways for this critically important technology.
We believe humanity can solve climate change, and our contribution to this collective future is a technology that we're proud to continue developing right here in Squamish.
