Sea to Sky Community Services: A Pillar of Community Building in Squamish
Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) has been serving the Sea to Sky corridor for more than 45 years, offering essential programs that support individuals and families across all stages of life. As one of the largest and most impactful nonprofit organizations in the region, SSCS is deeply committed to building a healthy, connected, and inclusive community.
Our work spans more than 42 programs, including early childhood education and childcare, youth services and outreach, mental health and counselling, affordable housing, food security, and support for seniors and people with disabilities. In Squamish, our presence is felt in everyday life—from affordable and subsidized housing developments to parenting groups and youth mental health supports. One of our most recent achievements is the opening of the Menmens ta Smanit Childcare Centre in Valleycliffe. Named in the S?wx?wú7mesh language, meaning “Children of the mountain,” this centre reflects our commitment to reconciliation and culturally inclusive care. SSCS is more than a service provider—we are a community builder. We collaborate with local governments, Indigenous partners, schools, health providers, and businesses to create solutions that are locally rooted and widely supported. Our approach is holistic, inclusive, and responsive. We listen to the community and adapt our programs to meet emerging needs, whether that's launching new youth initiatives, expanding food access, or supporting families through economic challenges.
We believe we are deserving of the Community Builder Award because:
- We build relationships that foster resilience, dignity, and belonging.
- We innovate to meet the changing needs of our community.
- We empower others—from volunteers and staff to the people we serve
- We reflect the diversity and strength of Squamish, honouring Indigenous voices, welcoming newcomers, and supporting vulnerable populations.
Our work is grounded in compassion and driven by impact. Every day, we see the difference that connection and care can make in someone's life. Whether it's a child thriving in a safe learning environment, a youth finding support during a difficult time, or a senior accessing community resources, SSCS is there—quietly, consistently, and wholeheartedly.
Being nominated for the Community Builder Award is a meaningful recognition of our team's dedication and the strength of the community we serve. We are proud to be part of Squamish's story and honoured to continue building a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
