As the founder of Create Makerspace, I have built a thriving creative hub in Squamish that empowers people to learn new skills, connect with others, and bring their ideas to life. What began as a small vision to share tools and knowledge has grown into a dynamic community centre where art, technology, and entrepreneurship meet. Under my leadership, Create Makerspace has become a model of collaboration, innovation, and social impact — making me a strong candidate for the Emerging Entrepreneur Award.

Today, I manage a dedicated core team of six talented staff who help run our day-to-day operations, manage studios, and support our growing member base. Together, we coordinate a roster of over 40 instructors, each an expert in their craft, teaching everything from woodworking and pottery to laser cutting, 3D printing, and digital design. Our instructors bring their professional experience and creative passion to the classroom, while our volunteer shop stewards play a crucial role in keeping the studios running smoothly, welcoming new members, and nurturing the supportive culture that defines Create.

Beyond being a membership-based makerspace, Create has become deeply woven into the social fabric of the Sea to Sky community. We partner with local schools and youth organizations to deliver hands-on educational programming that inspires creativity and confidence in young people. Collaborations with groups such as Sea to Sky Community Services, Squamish Elementary, Les Aiglons, and others ensure that students of all backgrounds have access to creative learning opportunities.

Our design and fabrication services also support the local economy, helping small businesses, artists, and organizations bring their ideas to life. From custom signage and furniture to interactive installations and product prototyping, Create has become a trusted partner for local entrepreneurs who need high-quality, locally made solutions.

A cornerstone of our work is our partnership with Squamish Nation elders, who have generously shared their knowledge through cultural programming at Create. Through workshops in paddle carving, bentwood box making, and wool weaving, we've been honoured to host intergenerational learning that celebrates Indigenous craftsmanship and connects community members through creativity and respect.

Alongside the business, I also lead Create Makerspace Society, a non-profit arm that enables us to access grant funding and expand our community impact. Through support from Squamish Arts, The Audain Foundation, and private donors, we've been able to run accessible programs that remove financial barriers, amplify local artists, and make creative education available to everyone.

What began as a small shared workshop has evolved into a vibrant creative ecosystem — with an ever-growing membership base and an expanding schedule of classes and events. Our continued growth reflects the community's trust in what we've built: a space that empowers people to learn, make, and connect.

As an emerging entrepreneur, my goal has always been to build more than a business — to build a movement of creativity, collaboration, and community. Create Makerspace embodies that vision, and I'm proud to lead its growth as a force for positive change in Squamish.
