Step Out! is transforming how people connect, communicate, and build confidence through Applied Improvisation and Improvisational Theatre. Since launching in 2022, I've diversified into multiple revenue streams while maintaining community focus. I've built a comprehensive business serving our Squamish community and Sea to Sky corridor with weekly classes for kids and adults (over 300 people), kids spring and summer camps, corporate teambuilding, wellness workshops, specialized improv workshops with professionals from Vancouver, in-school programming for students and teachers, communication mentoring for individuals and teen entrepreneurs at our local high school, quarterly comedy shows and couples workshops. My entrepreneurial innovation includes developing a 2-person improv card game, enabling couples to practice connection skills at home between workshops.
What sets Step Out! apart is the commitment to fostering genuine human connection through play. I create environments where all people can feel safe expressing themselves. I believe that through laughter, we grow. This philosophy resonates across demographics—from children and adults building confidence, to corporations strengthening team dynamics, to couples reconnecting through playful interaction.
I've successfully scaled from local programming to serving clients across the region. This expansion demonstrates market validation and business acumen while staying true to our core mission of authentic human connection.
Step Out! operates as both profitable enterprise and community hub. Our quarterly shows in December, March, and June provide performance opportunities for all skill levels, fostering artistic expression and community celebration. I collaborate with therapeutic counsellors for specialized programming and regularly contribute to the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association as a board member.
"I accept absolutely everybody" isn't just my motto—it's practice. I offer payment plans and loyalty discounts, ensuring financial barriers don't prevent participation. This inclusive approach has created lasting client relationships and referral-based growth extending throughout the Sea to Sky corridor.
My work addresses critical post-pandemic needs: rebuilding social skills, combating isolation, and restoring confidence in interpersonal connection. Whether guiding individuals towards being their authentic selves, helping high school students master public speaking, teaching corporate teams collaborative problem-solving, or guiding couples toward deeper intimacy through play, Step Out! provides evidence-based solutions using improvisational methodologies.
My business model prioritizes sustainable growth and community benefit over quick profits. This approach has established Step Out! as an essential community resource while demonstrating that meaningful impact and financial success are complementary, not competing goals.
As an emerging entrepreneur, I've proven that innovative programming can address real social needs while building a profitable business. Step Out! strengthens our community's social fabric through professional excellence, inclusive practices, and unwavering commitment to human connection. This award would recognize entrepreneurship that serves something greater than profit—creating lasting positive change through the simple power of play.
