Celerity Craft is a Squamish-based technology company that is developing the Dynamic Air Cushion Vehicle (DACV), a next-generation marine vessel technology designed to significantly reduce the environmental impact of marine transportation while delivering faster, smoother and more efficient travel.
Marine transportation is inefficient and slow. Boats and ships produce one billion tons of CO2 emissions annually, or 3% of global emissions. The industry is highly dependent on fossil fuels and, due to the energy intensity, is very hard to decarbonize which creates barriers to electrification while maintaining practical ranges.
Additional issues with conventional vessels include seasickness, limited operability in shallow waters, noise pollution affecting marine ecosystems, damaging wakes, and frequent underwater strikes of marine life and debris.
The DACV utilizes a 3-hulled design and operates by creating an energized column of air that is passed underneath the vessel, creating both lift and thrust. This simple and elegant design lifts the vessel out of the water, vastly reducing drag. The result is high speed with low power. The reduction in energy makes full electrification possible while maintaining practical ranges, achieving zero emissions.
The DACV is suitable for applications that require high speed, shallow water and amphibious landings, zero emissions and low environmental impact.
Celerity was founded on the premise of reducing the emissions in the marine transportation industry. Our team cares deeply about the environment and our products will have an impact locally and across the world.
