Arrow Wood Games is a specialty retail store with a curated selection of board games, card games, and role-playing games, as well as puzzles, gifts, books, and hobby supplies. But that's not all.
Arrow Wood Games also has an event space tucked away behind the store (our secret hideout)! Our Games Room can seat 28 people, and hold even more. We host regular games nights and other social events for adults, programs for children and families including summer camps and pro-D day activities, and private events including birthday parties, corporate team building, and holiday parties.
We love that games bring people of all ages, from all walks of life, and with diverse abilities together. Arrow Wood Games is 90% owned by women, and 100% dedicated to creating a space where everyone can be themself, feel welcome, and know they belong. We specifically seek out games and products by, and for, groups who have traditionally been marginalized in the tabletop games community including the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities, and women. We host events by and for those groups of people. We also create opportunities for those who are not interested in or able to participate in Squamish's more common physical recreation activities.
We love that playing games creates organic (and fun!) opportunities for learning. At the basic level, games teach foundational skills such as language and math. Beyond that, they help develop social skills such as negotiation, teamwork, and empathy, and complex critical thinking skills such as problem solving and resource management. Coming from a background in education, we are seeking opportunities to bring learning through games to the community.
We are honored to be nominated for the New Business Award, and remain focused on making Arrow Wood Games a place where Squamish residents can gather, learn, and play together. We are proud of our rapid growth and the positive feedback from our customers and the community. Winning this award would help shine a light on our efforts and dedication to creating not only a successful business but also a space that uplifts the community. We believe our efforts show exceptional promise for continued growth, and we hope to inspire other new businesses with our focus on community and creativity.
